Those attending the Los Angeles Times' "Hero Complex Film Festival" in Hollywood last night got more than just one of our favorite directors/swingers Jon Favreau talking up a double-header screening of "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2", they also got Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., in the flesh.
According to GeekTyrant, a typically bubbly Downey made a surprise appearance during the Q&A, fresh from the New Mexico set of Joss Whedon's "Avengers," where he is reprising his signature superhero once again.
"I usually start off the morning by refusing to do what I’ve signed on to do," said Downey. "So I brought that attitude, happily. I just thought, 'How are you gonna put all of us clowns together? He’s wearing a suit, he’s all jacked up, he’s so and so and poor Mark Ruffalo, he’s gonna out-do us.' And we’re about six weeks in, and I have to say Joss Whedon is nailing it. He’s so smart and so good. And it’s gonna be great."
Once he wraps up work on the hugely anticipated Marvel team-up extravaganza, Downey will suit up as the Golden Avenger once again for "Iron Man 3," directed by action maven Shane Black. After cracking some jokes about having to negotiate Favreau's acting deal to return as Happy Hogan, the "Cowboys and Aliens" director had some interesting comments on the threequel.
Said Favreau, "When it finally landed on Shane, it was like, 'All right, that’s gonna be something interesting.' Especially because it’s gonna be so difficult for whoever does that one because although it’s 'Iron Man 3,' the whole Avengers thing… in movies it’s hard not to take into consideration what just happened. What are you gonna say? They all just lost their cell phones and you can’t get help? So it’s going to take a lot of ingenuity to make it make sense to a mainstream film audience as well as a comic book audience."
So there you go. For whatever reasons Favs left the franchise, it's very apparent that he and Tony Stark are still buddy-buddy and maintain their love of the character. If you want to see further video proof from GeekTyrant check out the vid below.
